THE ULTIMATE WINTER TREK: NORTH AFRICA’S HIGHEST PEAK
Trek through snow-dusted valleys, climb above the clouds, and watch the sun rise from North Africa’s highest point, Mount Toubkal.
ABOUT THIS TRIP
This isn’t the typical express Toubkal climb. Our trip is designed by expedition leaders with real mountaineering and field experience, this itinerary prioritises proper acclimatisation, safety, and summit success — following the proven climb high, sleep low principle used on high-altitude expeditions worldwide.
While most operators rush straight from Marrakech to the refuge, we deliberately build in extra elevation gain and rest to allow your body to adapt. Day one is spent trekking to Tizi M’zzik Pass (2480 m) — your first acclimatisation hike — before returning to Imlil for the night. This vital adjustment boosts your summit performance and comfort at altitude, helping you reach the top feeling strong and confident.
From there, you’ll ascend steadily through Berber valleys, past the sacred site of Sidi Chamharouch, and on to the Toubkal Refuge (3200 m). Here, our team provides essential winter mountaineering preparation — from using crampons and ice axes to understanding safe movement on snow and ice.
Summit day begins long before dawn, climbing under starlight towards the 4167 m peak of Toubkal. As the horizon starts to glow, the first light of day spills across the mountains — an unforgettable sunrise above the clouds, illuminating the vast ridgelines of the Anti-Atlas and the distant Sahara Desert far below. Every step is guided by a professional, safety-focused team who understand mountain weather, pacing, and risk management — because real adventure doesn’t mean unnecessary risk.
Descending back to Imlil and then to Marrakech, you’ll finish your journey not just with the satisfaction of standing on North Africa’s highest point, but with a true sense of what an expedition should feel like — well planned, expertly led, and deeply rewarding.
At Wild Axis Expeditions, we don’t just guide climbs — we design experiences built for resilience, authenticity, and success.
DIFFICULTY RATING
This expedition is graded Level 4 – Demanding, designed for those with good physical fitness and a resilient mindset. While Mount Toubkal (4167 m) is one of the most achievable 4000 m peaks, the altitude, winter conditions, and long trekking days make it a true challenge.
The route is non-technical, but expect snow, cold temperatures, and sustained climbs carrying light daypacks. Our built-in acclimatisation and experienced guides ensure you’re well-prepared, supported, and safe every step of the way.
PAYMENT & FINANCIAL PROTECTION
Secure your place with a low deposit and the flexibility to pay in easy, interest-free instalments making adventure planning simple and stress-free.
