THE ULTIMATE SUMMER TREK: NORTH AFRICA’S HIGHEST PEAK

Hike rugged trails, cross wild Atlas valleys, and greet the sunrise from the summit of North Africa’s highest peak, Mount Toubkal.

ABOUT THIS TRIP

Mount Toubkal stands at 4,167 metres. The approach determines the outcome.

We build height progressively through the Azzaden Valley before committing to the refuge area. Wild camping beneath clear Atlas Mountains trekking skies allows the team to adapt properly rather than rushing straight to altitude.

The ascent of Aguelzim Pass at 3,650 metres is a deliberate acclimatisation objective. From here the High Atlas stretches in every direction before we descend again, applying the climb high, sleep low principle ahead of summit day.

By the time we move toward Toubkal itself, the team is adjusted, moving well, and operating as a unit. The result is a controlled mountain progression built around preparation, pacing, and realistic summit success on one of the finest Morocco trekking holidays available.

At Wild Axis Expeditions, we don't just guide treks. We craft experiences defined by authenticity, precision, and adventure done right.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this trek suitable for beginners?

Yes. This expedition is suitable for anyone with a good level of fitness and determination. No previous trekking or mountaineering experience is required, making it an excellent introduction to multi-day mountain adventures.

How difficult is Mount Toubkal?

Mount Toubkal is a challenging trek rather than a technical climb. The main challenges are the altitude, long walking days and uneven mountain terrain. No ropes or climbing equipment are required during the summer season.

How fit do I need to be?

You should be comfortable walking for 5–8 hours per day on consecutive days while carrying a small daypack. Regular walking, hiking, running or gym training before the trip will help you enjoy the experience more.

Why choose Wild Axis Expeditions?

Our local team has guided over 350 successful ascents of Mount Toubkal and knows these mountains inside out. Unlike many budget operators that focus solely on getting clients to the refuge before a summit push, we have designed this itinerary to deliver a genuine mountain expedition. With gradual acclimatisation, dedicated expedition staff, freshly prepared meals, quality camps and small group sizes, you’ll experience far more of the Atlas Mountains while giving yourself the best possible chance of reaching the summit.

Why is your itinerary good for acclimatisation?

Unlike many standard Toubkal itineraries that focus solely on reaching the summit as quickly as possible, our route is designed to gain altitude gradually over several days. Spending two nights camping in the mountains gives your body more time to adjust to the altitude, helping you feel stronger and more comfortable on summit day. It also allows you to enjoy a more immersive trekking experience away from the crowds. The result is a more enjoyable journey and a greater chance of successfully reaching the highest point in North Africa.

What accommodation is included?

Accommodation includes two nights in a boutique riad in Marrakech and two nights camping in the Atlas Mountains. While in the mountains, spacious twin-share tents, sleeping mats and all communal camping equipment are provided by our team, allowing you to focus on enjoying the experience.

How much weight do I need to carry?

You will only carry a daypack containing water, snacks, spare clothing and personal items needed during the day. Mules transport the main expedition equipment, camping gear and luggage between camps, allowing you to enjoy the trek without carrying a heavy pack.

What is the food like on the trek?

Our dedicated expedition cook accompanies the team throughout the trek, preparing fresh meals each day. Meals are designed to keep you fuelled for long days in the mountains and typically include traditional Moroccan dishes such as tagines, couscous, grilled meats, fresh bread, soups, salads, fruit and snacks. Vegetarian, vegan and most dietary requirements can be accommodated with prior notice.
