MONTENEGRO: RIVERS & RIDGES
ABOUT THIS TRIP
After arrival in the Montenegrin highlands, the expedition begins in the mountains of Durmitor National Park with a sunset ascent of Prutaš at 2,393 metres. The following morning, we take on Bobotov Kuk at 2,523 metres, the highest peak in the Durmitor massif, before shifting from the mountains to the river.
From here, we begin a three-day packrafting journey through the Tara River Canyon, moving progressively downstream through limestone gorges, rapids and increasingly isolated sections of the canyon. Each day takes us deeper into the landscape, with two nights spent wild camping beside the river.
The result is a deliberate mountain-and-river progression through Durmitor National Park, combining two high summits with a multi-day journey through the Tara Canyon. Designed for those who want to experience Montenegro by moving through its landscapes rather than simply visiting them.

Day 1
ARRIVAL IN PODGORICA → MOUNTAIN CAMP → PRUTAŠ SUNSET HIKE
Guests are met on arrival at Podgorica Airport before transferring north towards Durmitor National Park. The journey leaves the lowlands behind as we travel into Montenegro’s mountain interior.
After arriving at our mountain camp and settling in, we head out in the afternoon for a sunset hike to the summit of Prutaš (2,393m).
From the summit, there are panoramic views across the surrounding peaks, valleys and high plateaus of the Durmitor massif as the sun begins to set.
We descend back to camp for dinner and our first night in the mountains.

ASCENT OF BOBOTOV KUK (2,523M) → ŽABLJAK
An early start for one of the expedition’s biggest mountain days. After breakfast, we begin the ascent of Bobotov Kuk, the highest peak in the Durmitor massif at 2,523 metres.
The route crosses open alpine terrain, with rocky ascents and exposed sections as we gain height towards the summit. From the top, there are extensive views across Durmitor National Park and Montenegro’s mountain interior.

Day 3
TARA RIVER CANYON: EXPEDITION BEGINS
After breakfast, we transfer from Žabljak to the Tara River, where we prepare our equipment and begin the river phase of the expedition.
We launch into the canyon and start our journey downstream through one of Europe’s most impressive river environments. Limestone walls rise above the turquoise water as we move deeper into the canyon and away from roads and settlements.
The day is spent progressing downstream before we leave the river in the afternoon and establish our first riverside wild camp.

A full day on the Tara River as we continue our journey through the canyon.
The gorge narrows and the limestone walls rise higher as we progress downstream through flowing water and rapids. With our equipment travelling with us, we continue through the canyon as a team, stopping along the river as required throughout the day.
